What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? my goals are to provide exceptional care to my patients while in training, getting more opportunities for maternity care and women's health, in addition to promoting preventive health and quality care 
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I love to visit new places, especially along the ocean shore, and spending time with family.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal is the be an independent family physician who can serve different communities and be able to teach other students to be good doctors.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Gardening, collecting Stamp, driving car through the mountains.

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? I’m passionate about Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and currently pursuing a dedicated fellowship. My clinical interests are prevention and primary care in patients with spinal cord injury/disease, home care, and remote medical monitoring. My research interest is transcutaneous electrical stimulation.
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? As an international medical graduate, I have not had a lot of choices but rather was fascinated by my match with the program at SUNY Upstate. It’s my privilege to be here. My family and I love the Syracuse area with its four seasons of weather, agriculture, fantastic outdoor activities, and no traffic.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal during residency is to establish a firm skillset foundation I can continue to improve during my career. Having the resources of a large university with a tertiary medical center and a dedicated faculty involved in residents’ education creates tremendous opportunities to grow and excel. My ultimate goal is to improve primary care for the population of patients with disabilities and specifically spinal cord injury/disease.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Outside of residency, I enjoy biking, skiing, and swimming. I’m very interested in plants and gardening. I love cooking and doing all of that together with my family. I’m also a denim nerd, let’s talk about jeans!

I choose SUNY Upstate Family Medicine residency Program because I want to be part of academic and community- based residency program with strong emphasis on evidence-based practice standards. The program felt like a family with supportive faculty, residents and medical staff. Syracuse is home and I am honored to be selected to train in Upstate Family Medicine Residency program.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal is to develop comprehensive clinical skills to become a well- rounded family physician.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking and listening to Sufi music.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I loved the idea of getting to experience a different part of New York than downstate Westchester County where I lived with my family. This program providentially fit my needs with its emphasis on work-life balance, holistic patient-centered outpatient care and a welcoming environment for IMGs.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician?  To build capacity and efficiency while learning to be a better listener and partner in the shared-decison making process.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I was looking for a newer program that would be open to thoughts, projects, and ideas, one that would allow residents to contribute to the growth of the program. I didn't want to go to a program that was set in its ways who might say "but we've always done it this way, why change?"
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal is to keep my training broad and learn whatever I can while I'm here. While in residency, I hope to help foster a sense of community within the program, and to help investigate new avenues of academic development.    
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Reading, painting, playing guitar, sewing, hiking, camping, and recently started rock climbing (I'm terrible at it).

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? Learn as much as possible every day and take each day one day at a time.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Spending time with family and friends and I will sometimes go to the gym for cardio and lifting.

Our program director has great ambition to develop and enhance it with the best expertise. It has great diversity in the cultures of the residents. Opportunities for fellowship. Exceptionally invests in the education of the residents. I really appreciated how kind and compassionate everyone was on interview day. Syracuse has charming nature, great for families with perfect balanced mix of urban and suburban.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? I look forward to receiving excellent training for the next three years to be an outstanding family physician benefiting from the experiences of the faculty here to develop skills of dealing with the patient from the social and psychological aspects as well as medical care.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I love watcing soccer games with my son and reading.

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? I have several areas of interest in medicine, particularly: chronic disease management, mood disorders, and perinatal care. 
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? Being part of a relatively new program allows for more flexibility and for us to shape the way the program develops. Syracuse is a large enough city to support the major specialties and the most critical sub-specialties, but not such a sprawling metropolis that you get lost in the size of the health care system. 
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? I want to be able to care for anyone in an outpatient, primary-care setting. This means anyone from birth through geriatric management; I want to offer comprehensive primary care coverage. 
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I like exploring the outdoors, anything from hiking to back-country canoe trips; things that can get me away from roads and cities.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? In the group meeting with residents during interviews, I strongly felt a welcoming atmosphere. Since I am changing my career and starting medicine from the beginning, I thought that tight support from other residents and faculty would be important for me. I also like the Upstate NY area for its natural beauty, and I learned that Fayetteville-Manlius is one of the best school districts in the U.S.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal throughout residency is to develop the skills needed to be an excellent independent physician and teacher. Training with knowledeable and supportive residents and faculty at Upstate will allow me to meet my goals.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I'm practicing "The Well-Tempered Clavier" by J.S. Bach on the piano, not to be good at it, but for my wellness.

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? I am interested in whole health, women's health, and geriatrics. I've been able to gain experience in each of these areas through rotations at both Upstate and VA facilities, and I look forward to deepening my experience in all three.
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I chose Upstate because it stood out among other programs as a perfect fit for me. The program aligns perfectly with my professional goal to serve a diverse and underserved patient population and become an excellent family physician. I also identified with the faculty members, the diversity of the residents, and the wellness aspect of the program. My husband and I visited Syracuse and liked the smaller city feel, the friendliness and diversity of the people, the four seasons, and the food! There are good grocery stores, farmers markets, and great restaurants.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? I want to gain full competency in the curriculum and be well-prepared to confidently and competently serve the full range of patients and conditions in an underserved population after graduation. The rigor of the program and the quality of the faculty is preparing me to be a physician who serves my patients with excellence.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I love spending time with my family, friends, and faith community. My husband and I like to explore new areas and we've been enjoying short outings around Syracuse and the surrounding area, including the State Parks nearby which are so beautiful and accessible. After long days I like to watch my favorite Brazilian cooking show, which reminds me of home and inspires me for the day ahead.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? There are several reasons Why I chose Upstate: 1. One of the faculty members whom I interviewed with was involved in so much in the community. I was impressed and inspired by all his work and commitment and knew it would be a privilege learning from him. 2. I loved the relationship between residents and felt that they genuinely cared and looked out for each other. One thing I always pray for when looking for a job/program is a friendly and supportive environment. 3. Cultural Diversity, support from all the faculty and staff given to the residents and the emphasis places on mental health and wellness. I love that I would be close to so many lakes and rivers. Lots of opportunity to hike and explore.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? To learn and do as much as I possibly can and to form long and lasting professional relationships. All the attendings love to teach so I am confident that with the curriculum, and the diverse patient population I will be fully prepared to practice independently.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Spending time with my family, hiking, gardening, watching movies and Tv shows Like Law and Order SVU and Criminal Minds.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I chose upstate because I felt it offered the greatest opportunity to pursue my goals. It’s still in its development stage as a program and it gave multiple options for different tracts. For example, I liked that it offers a special tract for OBGYN training. Finally, it gives me the path for sports medicine with an in-house fellowship program. I grew up 30mins away in Oneida, NY. I loved the idea of working in and around my community.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My personal goals are to become a well-rounded FM physician, give myself the best possible opportunity for fellowship, and forward the program specifically in the areas of rehabilitation and sports medicine. The program offers inpatient and outpatient care training in 3 different hospitals and multiple clinics. Working hard in multiple healthcare systems and settings is the best way to become solid physician.

What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? I am dedicated to provide holistic and inclusive care to patients of all ages and diverse backgrounds. My goal is to build strong patient relationships and address a wide range of medical needs, promoting health and well-being in the communities I serve. Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I love exploring the beauty of nature. From walking through peaceful parks and relaxing by lakes to taking pictures of stunning landscapes, each adventure makes me feel amazed and refreshed. Whether it's a simple stroll in the park or an exciting wilderness journey, being outdoors helps me relax and appreciate the beauty of nature. Syracuse compliments my nature as it has fantastic outdoor opportunities, with its breathtaking parks like Onondaga Lake Park, and scenic landscapes such as the Finger Lakes region, making it a perfect destination for nature enthusiasts. Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? I am not in any special track or focus currently, but I am keeping an open mind and will continue to explore options. My area of interest spans across the broad spectrum of family medicine, but most certainly academic and community health, urgent care, and women’s health.
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? Syracuse has always been another home since I came to the United States from Vietnam. When I was in undergraduate studies at Syracuse University, I started working as a lab assistant at SUNY Upstate. Since then, I never left Upstate and at the same time, had no reason to leave Syracuse. During clerkship in medical school, I came to know the residents and faculty of Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program and I quickly fell in love with them. Not only that they are friendly, but they also treated me as if I am a member of their big family. I found Upstate Family Medicine to be full of caring and inspiring physicians that I am yearning to become one.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My primary goal is to optimize patient care, medical knowledge, and evidence-based practice while in residency. I am eager to learn the full breadth of the robust variety of subspecialties in the curriculum and to incorporate such expertise into my daily clinical practice. I am confident that my experiences at Upstate will help me recognize the needs of others and provide comprehensive care in an effective manner. Ultimately, I am looking forward to building long-lasting relationship with my new family, which consists of all fellow residents, staff, and faculty as the years come.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? I love spending time with my most favorite people in the world, my mom and younger brother, outside of my busy schedule. We like exploring new food, particularly sweets and iced flavored coffees, and collecting stuffed animals. In my own time, I enjoy reading, playing puzzle games, and binge-watching horror thriller movies.

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? I truly love all things family medicine! I don’t have a specific track, but I have a strong interest in integrative medicine particularly nutrition. 
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I was born and raised in Camillus, NY and knew I wanted to stay in the area. I went to Upstate for medical school where I was lucky enough to spend two months with the family medicine residency program. I felt the teachers and mentors I gained were unmatched. I knew that this was a program where I would be supported and encouraged to make my own; and that has been true! Being a newly established program, we interns are in the sweet spot of having the way paved for us while giving us the opportunity to build new roads. Growing up in the area I also feel that Upstate has a strong sense of community and recognizes that healthcare is more than just the medicine, it’s treating the whole person.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goal in residency is to become a well rounded physician who is confident in broad scope family medicine. I truly am fascinated by all medicine, but see myself practicing mainly outpatient in the future. I have a particular interest in integrative medicine and motivational interviewing which I hope to incorporate into my patient care.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? My greatest joy in life is spending time with my fiancé and family. I enjoy all things on the water, especially sailing on the finger lakes.

Are you in a special track or focus during your residency? No, I am not in any special track or focus during my residency. Currently, I am interested in finishing my Family Medicine residency so that I can work in a clinic and teach in an academic setting to medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals. I am also considering a Sports Medicine subspecialty.
Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? My reason for choosing the program is multifaceted. First, I completed my Masters in Anatomy degree from Upstate. Second, I also taught Human Physiology in the newly found Physician Assistant program at Upstate. Third, I grew up in the upstate New York region. I graduated high school from Ithaca and attended my undergraduate education at Binghamton. Additionally, my parents live nearby in Saratoga Springs. Regarding the program, I am experienced in the SUNY system and I really enjoyed my visit and encounters with the residents, faculty and staff from the residency program during my interview season.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? To become the best Family Medicine doctor possible. I hope to continue and gain more clinical knowledge and learn how to best apply that knowledge. Additionally, I believe learning empathetic and caring approaches is critical to gaining trust with your patients and it is my goal to develop that skill in this program. With greater knowledge, I can assist patients in reaching their diagnosis and finding a possible treatment. With empathy, understanding and trust, I can build a doctor-patient relationship that will provide support for them by letting them know they have someone who is passionate about their wellbeing and actively working to assist them in their needs.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Outside of residency, I like to play hockey, both ice and roller. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, who originally is from Colombia, and dogs and going on adventures with them. We like to travel and visit our family and friends in all parts of the world. I speak Arabic and Spanish fluently and enjoy learning more about different languages and cultures.

Why did you choose Upstate Family Medicine Residency Program? Why Syracuse? I chose Upstate Family Medicine residency because it provides a unique training experience in community and university hospitals. It has numerous opportunities for career growth and academic advancement. The Camaraderie between the residents, attendings, and other supporting staff in this program is excellent. It was my point of attraction as it fits into my desire for a conducive learning environment. In addition, upstate has diverse patient populations, which will enhance my cultural competence. I came to Syracuse to live my American dream, experience a snowy region, build snowmen with kids, enjoy outdoor activities, and, most importantly, serve the community.
What are your goals while here in the residency program? How will this prepare you to be an excellent physician? My goals in residency are: ● To provide quality patient-centered care, improve my medical knowledge, and be professional and ethical in all approaches. ● Maintain excellent interpersonal relationships and communication skills among co-workers. ● Become efficient and skillful in delivering my clinical duties, and pass all in-training and board exams. ● Have cultural competence and get involved in research and publications. ● Conduct quality improvement projects, and maintain an excellent work-life balance. These goals aim to achieve the core competencies in healthcare and intentional self-development, preparing me to be an excellent physician.
Do you have any special interests outside of the residency? Outside of residency, I love coloring, painting, teaching, and cooking spicy African delicacies.
